The Pain of Loss
There are few worse experiences than losing a loved one. This grieving husband had the shock of emptiness caused by the death of his wife, which was overwhelming. The laughter and love that this house had once held in its rooms were now cold and silent. The books on shelves and little trinkets she had loved gathering spoke through the silence in every nook and cranny.
He had a hard time for the months that went by after her death. Sometimes, he would go back into memories of their life, retracing the places they loved and the things that reminded him of her presence. One of them included her book collection. For years, it had been her sanctum sanctorum. The faint spot on his favorite book was calling him in ways he did not even understand yet.
And he thought about it one evening; he opened the book. It seemed to him something between the past and the woman who meant so much to him. He could almost feel her sitting beside him as he turned its pages, feeling the laughter and warmth of the memories still very much alive.
