A Sleepless Night
The night before the baby’s due date had been full of anticipation. The Marine and his wife had talked into the early hours of the morning, their hopes and dreams for their child after all the perspectives on what kind of parent they would each be, laughing at the more inevitable chaos of those sleepless nights and changing diapers.
As the Marine lay in bed, he felt the baby kick under his hand. It was a gentle reminder of the life they had brought forth together. “I cannot wait to see them,” he said, full of wonder in his voice. His wife smiled, feeling full-hearted. “Me too. It feels as though they are already a part of us.
Although they were trying to sleep, neither was able to fall asleep completely. The thoughts of what was ahead filled their minds. They stayed up with each other to comfort themselves, realizing that their lives were going to change forever.
