Arrival at Home
He actually landed the airplane on the tarmac, putting an end to his long journey home. With a rush of emotion, the Marine felt a sense of relief, excitement, and belonging. Hearing the voices of families reuniting with their loved ones as he made his way down from the aircraft touched his heart with anticipation. Quickly scanning the masses for the familiar face he had been dreaming of, there she was: his wife, amidst them all.
She stood there, with the glow, holding her sign that read “Welcome Home, My Hero.” Her smile was bright, and sparkling were her eyes from tears of glee. She had kept it together this long, but now that the moment was finally here, she could not and indeed did not hold it in. The Marine hurried his pace to quickly close the gap between them. He was home after all; he was in her arms where he belonged.
She spread out her arms as he approached her, and without hesitation, he swept her into his embrace. They held each other for an eternity as their separation melted into the moment. They broke apart only to be met by something he hadn’t expected. A change he had not anticipated. His wife was not quite the way that he had remembered. Right in front of him was a noticeable baby bump.
