Preparing the Nursery
Transforming the extra room into a nursery became a labor of love to both of them – for the soldier and his wife. In this rearrangement, they would discuss picking soft pastel colors for the walls, showy adorable baby clothes in stores, and assembling furniture. All this was a distraction from the apprehensions of the past, and a hopeful nod towards the future.
They eagerly joined the fray, decorating the room with their own special touches. The walls were painted and decorated with pictures. The infant decided to take his share of stuffed animals too. In a few days, the nursery became a family project, bringing into the air the feeling of love and anticipation related to the new arrival.
Every step of the preparation made them closer as a family. He found himself marvelling at the simple gestures—like deciding on which crib design or folding baby clothes could make so much sense. And it reminded him to cherish every second, being aware how time could play its tricks.
