Emily’s New Tradition
Inspired by this great response, Emily wanted to make her idea of the balloon turn into an annual event. Every year on her birthday, she let loose a balloon carrying with it a heartfelt note attached to it. She called it the “Hope Balloon,” through which Emily was able to project her dreams and positivity onto the world.
Soon, other families in the community were joining in, releasing their own balloons with hope messages of gratitude and love. Within hours on Emily’s birthday, skies were filled with rainbows of balloons; each one carried a story or a wish. Such is a representation of the community holding onto the reality of doing small acts of kindness and believing in its power.
Emily often asked herself where new balloons would be when they eventually came down and the stories that may follow. She felt so happy knowing that such a simple task was going to start something much bigger than herself.
