But as Emily continued to grow older, so did her passion about telling stories. Now she believed the magic of communication that had been embodied in the finding of her balloon with the words of her note inside. She started dreaming about being a writer someday-to tell stories so great that they would awaken Clara’s heart, like her note had awakened Emily’s.
Emily’s parents continue to encourage her creativity, telling her to pursue whatever is within her to explore and to dream about. Often they refer to when she let a balloon go into the sky and all that change and growth for their daughter came out of it.
Emily went to work on her first book: an illustrated novelized account of the balloon’s travels, inspired by paintings Clara made. To her, the book was a way to seize the magic and share it on a much bigger level with others.
