Reconstructing the House: Old Meets New
During renovation, the couple chose to mingle the old with the new. It picked design elements that reflected the original style of the home but preserved the features like original hardwood floors and crown molding and added modern touches so that the space is comfortable and functional enough. The idea was to create a home that respected the past but at the same time came alive with the present.
Artifacts turned into something that sat at the center of their living room. Anyone who visited could see in it a history so unique for their home. Choices they would make for renovation reflected in the stories they had uncovered, even vintage-inspired arrangements in decor toward complementing the character of the house. They have soft, neutral colors, repurposed materials, and antique furniture to make the house warm.
The couple agrees that they loved making it keep the character while, at the same time, making it a home. “Each decision feels meaningful because it has reflected our journey and the stories we found,” they said. “It is now a blend of old memories and new, for this space is where the old ones are cherished and new ones created.”. It was a testament to the history of the house, and they packed all they loved and respected from the previous lives in it, relating the renovating process with love.
