Finding an Old Jewel
Apart from the photographs and the letters, they discovered a small, fragile piece of jewelry: an antique locket on a silver chain. The lid was tarnished with age, but the design seemed to be from a bygone era where such beauty once was. Inside the locket was a tiny, faded photo of a young woman, perhaps someone who had lived in the house or was dear to one of its residents.
This was so impressive that when the couple discovered the locket, it felt like being given a very intimate object. It felt as though they were holding part of someone’s heart. They wondered whether there was a story from behind this locket: who had it been worn by, what it meant to them, and how and why it had been hidden in the wall. Again, here is the view that the locket is symbolic and a step in a bridge of past to present life that has come alive with time.
It was a small piece of jewelry, but in reality, it made them feel stronger about the house and its former occupants. The locket reminded them of lives lived, loved, and cherished memories within those walls. They decided to clean and preserve the locket as a testimony to the lives that it represented, vowing to keep it as part of their home’s décor to honor its history.
