A Heartbreaking Discovery
The puppies weren’t yet two weeks old, and their fragile bodies curled up in balls for warmth. Their matted hair was sodden from wetness, and the tiny little whimpers barely audible over the rustle of the nearby trees. Apparently they hadn’t been fed for some time nor had shelter or water been provided for them. What Tom saw really made him feel the depth of despair.
He himself carried the box, this time putting it in the back seat of his car. Every movement was on purpose since he was trying to coddle the scared puppies. Who could have left them there? Why? And how long had they been waiting for someone to find them?
Although his plan had been just a quick hop over to the town down the road, all that went out the window in one instant. Tom’s errands of the day were no longer important; instead, it was the lives of these defenseless animals. He checked through his rearview mirror, fired the car up, and aimed it toward the animal shelter.
