A Village Divided
The more mysterious it became, the more heated the division within Oakfield. The villagers would say to one another: “This is an extraordinary discovery or something much greater beyond our comprehension.” They were proud of having something in their small town that could bring them some attention and recognition. Others were fretful and fearful.
These more timid villagers were becoming afraid of the possible implications of such a powerful and mysterious object so close to home. They feared that this object might bring danger or disruption to their otherwise peaceful lives. It was through voices at town meetings that they made their concerns known about safety issues should they continue studying the object. The townspeople could be broadly divided into two factions: one, which embraced the mystery and wished that it had been left underground, and the other.
This notwithstanding, one thing was clear: the object had changed Oakfield forever. It had transformed the identity of the villagers from a quiet agricultural town into a place of intrigue and speculation. Once was the small, proud community because it was simple and private; it was now at the center of global attention. Whether they wanted it or not, Oakfield was now the location of one of the most mysterious discoveries in modern history.
