Invasion of Privacy and Drone Laws
As the use of drone technology increases, so does invasion of privacy lawsuits. More people have proceeded to file cases against drone operators who filmed them from their backyards or even inside their homes, recording them in their gardens. These lawsuits join the ever-growing concern that drones can easily invade one’s private domain by flying into areas where confidentiality is expected.
Laws administering the use of drones are only beginning to develop; there is no uniform law that comprehensively covers drone photography and videography. In some places, there are very serious regulations regarding where a drone may fly and what it may photograph, but enforcement is often difficult. Thus, many feel impotent when drones photograph scenes that they should have a reasonable right to privacy about.
Related legal issues concerning privacy with drones are still emerging. But as the drone technology boom grows, new laws and legislations concerning drones will need to be developed to recognize and guard the rights to privacy from individuals. Innovation and privacy must balance well so that the use of drones does not trespass beyond the required lines; furthermore, it would do the same for the content they capture and share responsibly.
