The Rescue Mission
As the paramedics worked quickly to assess the driver, they determined that Mr. Jenkins had indeed suffered from a diabetic emergency. His blood sugar levels had fallen to alarmingly low levels, causing him confusion, disorientation, and complete inability to focus. The peculiar smell that Timmy had noticed earlier was related to the chemical changes that were occurring in Mr. Jenkins’ body due to his condition. The paramedics administered glucose right away to stabilize his condition and took him to the hospital for further treatment. They assured Timmy and the other children that the driver would be fine, but he would require medical attention; however, he was in safe hands.
The authorities took further steps to investigate what had led to Mr. Jenkins’ medical episode. It was realized that he had not been aware of the severity of his condition that morning, which had been worsening over time. In his attempt to plow through his condition without an inkling of just how hazardous they had grown, fortune smiled upon him when Timmy’s timely act could have easily led to disaster. All thanks to the efficiency and speed with which the emergency responders responded and helped save the driver, the bus was soon cleared of further danger.
Timmy’s parents were shortly informed of the situation after the children had been escorted safely away from the bus. His mother and father arrived at the scene just in time when Timmy is being reunited with his classmates. His father was particularly proud of the composure shown by his son in the midst of the confusion and pressure. He has always encouraged his son to stay alert and aware of his surroundings, and this is one incident where Timmy had to face this in reality. Timmy’s actions that day showed us that even the youngest among us could make a difference when it counted the most.
