Page 5: The Appraiser’s Interesting Analysis
The appraiser was very much interested as she perused the painting, taking her closer to minute details that man has not even observed. She highlighted differences in the strokes of paintbrushes, layering of colors, and some techniques used by major artists extensively in the mid-20th century.
She mentioned that these methods did not have anything to do with some amateur work but almost portrayed a trained artist’s hand along with a unique style. Then, she walked towards the frame with aged wood and special constructions which revealed its authenticity. She said she rarely sees frames from specific periods and places that align with the period and provenance of the painting; it lends more authenticity to its origin. By this point, he was hanging on her every word because he soon realized it was far more than a routine appraisal.
The appraiser was visibly excited when she suggested it could be an important piece. Finally, she turned the canvas over to look for marks, stamps, or even a signature that will point to who wrote it. Her eyes drifted on awhile before focusing finally and settling on an almost imperceptibly inscribed almost indecipherable signature obscured under layers of dust and age. Her eyes widened and she turned to him in awe. This is probably a work by someone whose works are really scarce and precious,” she said. The man was stunned, realizing that he had been living with a potential masterpiece on his wall for years.
