Preparing the Passengers
The pilot knew it was too late at this point when the minimum fuel level was set on the available fuel to the plane. He decided this was the time to advise the passengers. This would not be an easy task since there was every likelihood of getting hysterical reactions when informed. The cabin crew, aware of the seriousness, were now duty-bound to make this without panicking the passengers. The steady, reassuring voice came from the pilot over the intercom, who said the plane was low on fuel but that he and his crew were fully prepared to handle the situation.
They listened intently as their faces changed from shock to concerned as they absorbed the news. For some, reality set in-this was an emergency situation-and fear started seeping through the cabin. However, everything became a blank slate with the countenance of calmness by the pilot and professionalism by the crew when they assured everybody that everything was going to be alright. Passengers were told by the crew to position themselves for an emergency landing; the proper position was given, a possible impact, readied everyone for what was coming next.
Despite the fear and tension, the passengers followed every instruction from the crew. Some prayed, others gripped their seats, and many closed their eyes and hoped that something would go right. The cabin was tense but composed a testament to the crew being in control and sure of what they were doing.
