Outdoor Spaces and Landscape Integration
Besides the cave itself, the builder designed outdoor extensions to further develop their connection to nature. Patios and terraces were designed according to the natural lie of the land along contours, creating spaces with open air and breath-taking views. These are prepared from stone and wood, shaped more to complement the rugged texture of the landscape rather than to dominate it.
Another outdoor space was only, that contained a pit carved directly into the native rock itself, which is the perfect spot for gathering in cooler evenings. The builder chose to use native vegetation planted across the property, selecting flora that can grow and thrive according to the local climate as well as water requirements. Such flora adds beauty to the landscape while supporting local wildlife and the ecosystem.
The outdoor spaces extend the house space of the cave house into areas for rest and contact with nature. The elements involved in the landscape mean that a house is not constructed as having clear boundaries between indoors and outdoors.
