Selecting the Right Location
The location was one of the most significant decisions involved when deciding to construct the cave house. A cave home relies heavily on the natural features of the surroundings. Therefore, the builder wanted to establish that this was an area that was not only scenic but structurally stable. He scouted several areas and finally found the best rock formation inside a serene, secluded environment offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This place provided him with the ideal mix of privacy, beauty, and the strong rock foundation required for his dream.
The site was also practical: it provided natural insulation and protection against extreme weather. Because of the climate in the region, the rock formation will keep the house cool in hot summer months and warm during winter, thereby less need for artificial climatization. He also wanted seclusion or a remote location, but at this position, he could include large windows without losing privacy, being able to take the outdoors in.
After the site was identified, the builder began to prepare for the excavation and construction process. It was a very cautious phase that demanded very careful planning and not to compromise the integrity of the rock. Consulting geological experts enabled him to identify areas that were safe to carve out rooms and spaces, hence leading to a well-designed and secure cave house.
