Excavation and Construction Challenges
Excavating a cave house is an entirely complex and very laborious procedure, and this project was no different. The traditional way of construction hardly applies because the natural rock has to be removed carefully and some of it reinforced to create habitable rooms. Any step in excavation had to be analyzed appropriately, and engineers and laborers worked at a snail’s pace as they ensured that the rock retained its natural stability. The builder knew that one mistake was all it took for a whole project to be overrun.
One of the most challenging aspects was actually attaining the maximum depth in each room so that living spaces would be an opening to nature, not a dark cave. This entailed cutting large, well-proportioned openings and applying structural reinforcements to accommodate higher ceilings and wide, open clearances.
And having dug, the house builder turned his attention to plumbing, electrical lights, and heating systems into his rock structure. Conventional wiring and piping ideas didn’t do much for him, so he closely collaborated with experts to come up with a safe, hidden system that would fit into the walls of his rock structure. Every stride brought him closer to realizing his vision: a comfortable, modern home merged into the earth.
