An Emotional Journey
Grieving over the death of a loved person is never easy and even much worse if that loss comes without any expectation. His case was described in terms of standing in an emotional well marked by deep sadness, a feeling of guilt, and confusion. While digging through his wife’s belongings, he couldn’t help but wonder if he could have done more for her, if there were things between them that needed to be said.
There were times when the grief was so overwhelming, and he pondered if he could ever really get over this loss. Often, he felt bad because his wife had been taken away from him before they could really know each other and enjoy all aspects of life with each other. However, as he slowly worked through the grieving process and begun to reflect on the discoveries, he started feeling peace inside himself.
In that regard, letters and photographs helped him to terms up with her death. Through them, he got a closure of sorts revealing aspects of her life and personality he never knew before. This also gave him a space for honor in the memory of his wife, something authentic and meaningful. Even though the pain of losing his wife would not fade away completely, the husband started to realize that the love they had for each other is not limited to the time spent together- it lives in the discoveries he did after her death.
