The Healing Process
Time, in its way, began to mend some of the wounds inflicted by the death of his wife. The husband would still feel the burn of grief, but slowly, he began to feel an attenuating sense of peace as he processed the unexpected discoveries made in her absence. His wife’s memory was now intertwined with those letters, photographs, and dreams she had left behind. He stopped grieving over the lost but started being thankful for all that time they had, even if it was short.
He found comfort in the fact that their love did not die along with her. It had turned into something much more profound and much longer-lasting. The things he learned surprisingly allowed him to know his wife in ways he never could have when she was still living, and he began to realize that love is not just a moment but connections that continue on even in death.
As he was healing, the husband had decided to pay tribute to her by living the life he knew she had always dreamed of. He went to some of the places she had written about in her letters and chased a few of the goals she aspired to. For him, that was his way of holding onto her spirit with him, ensuring that her dreams were not forgotten. Though she was no longer dwelling with him, her love and hopes continued living in him.
