Bringing the Story to Light
The concept of leaving Margaret’s story for the future really inspired Emma. She began to disorganize the contents of the suitcase, digitizing each letter and photograph so that nothing is lost in translation. Every scan brings about revelations long forgotten by time.
Emma also contacted regional historians, shared her research, and asked them to provide her with recommendations on how to contextualize Margaret’s life within the general historical framework. They were really intrigued by the very personal descriptions of wartime life and by the inside look at everyday endurance.
Inspired by their energy, Emma set out to combine Margaret’s letters with her own reflections into a manuscript. She hoped that the story would motivate readers to hold dear their family histories and to uncover what treasures there are in their own lives.
