Assuming the Role of a Storyteller
Playing on, the young man began to see himself as something of a greater personality – a raconteur like Jack. For each song there was a story, and he took this far more seriously-sod it, he had to let them hear about the tale of Jack and the songs for him. This could not be anything but peculiar in itself; with other people, he had never been able to relate this well. It wasn’t just to play; it was letting people into that world of the song and inviting people to feel that legacy, which he felt so deeply.
Between songs, he would be giving stories about Jack’s life, his performances, and how much of an influence Jack had in the community. These made the concertgoers understand more dimensions in the music they were listening to. His concerts were no longer just melody and rhythm; his concerts were experiences, a trip through time that allowed one to relate with the spirit of music by Jack.
He comes to realize he is honoring Jack not just by playing his songs but keeping his story alive. His role as a musician has now gone beyond the norm-he is no longer just a musician, but a custodian of memories, a bridge between past and present, bearing Jack’s legacy with each note.
